As Woodstock was happening August 15, 16, & I7 of 1969, the
lacquer on this rare David Russell Young guitar was still
setting up! It arrived at our store in October of 1969 and
was sold to an ex-Christy Minstrel immediately thereafter. It was once reconditioned by Rick Turner who has kept Willie
Nelson's old nylon string going all these years. Just
recently, it was gone over by our own guitar luthier and it is
again... in beautiful and pristine condition.
Rodney Dillard (of the famed Dillards) had offered to buy it
because it has such a great High and Low end... but the
original owner could not part with it back then. The only
reoson it's for sale now is because the same original owner
lives in a desert city and the lack of humidity would
eventually be a threat to this vintage piece.
Hand made displaying the number (44) on the inside label, it
features an Ebony fingerboard and bridge. Gold Schaller
tuners and German Silver frets in top condition. The sides
and back are solid Brazilian Rosewood and the matched
Sprucetop has a story of its own.
David Russell Young acquired spruce doors from a San
Francisco mansion which dated back 150 years at that time.
So if you add those yrs. to the present time, it means the
sprucetop is at least 189 years old after the tree wasfelled.
David Russell Young currently makes custom cello and
violin bows only... and has stopped making guitars.
